The Silent Condition
Periodontal (gum) disease is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the tissues supporting your teeth, the gums, bone, and ligaments.
It begins with bacterial plaque that, if not effectively removed, causes inflammation (gingivitis). Left untreated, this can progress to periodontitis, where the bone and deeper structures are damaged, leading to tooth mobility and eventual tooth loss.
It’s estimated that nearly half of adults have some degree of gum disease, often without realising it.
Periodontal disease often progresses quietly and painlessly, earning its description as “the silent disease.”
By the time symptoms such as mobility or gum recession appear, the damage is often significant, but preventable with early detection and professional care.

At The Hygiene Hub, we welcome two types of referrals:
🦷 Dentist or Hygienist Referral – for patients identified as needing advanced periodontal care, maintenance, or support beyond routine hygiene.
💬 Patient Self-Referral – for anyone concerned about bleeding gums, gum recession, or wanting a specialist-level hygiene service to maintain their oral health.
Referrals can be made quickly and securely through our online referral form, available on our website. Once received, our team will contact the patient directly to arrange an appointment.

Your first appointment is a detailed, diagnostic consultation including:

Radiographic review (with option for OPG or bitewings if required)

Tailored oral hygiene instruction, with product demonstrations and a take-home guide

Written report to your referring dentist (if applicable).
