WHY HYGIENE TREATMENT MATTERS

Protecting your gums, protecting your health

Gum disease is caused by bacteria in plaque, which can build up on teeth and lead to inflammation and infection of the gums. Left untreated, it can result in tooth loss, and is linked to systemic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and Alzheimer's. Periodontal treatment helps prevent its progression and preserve your oral health.

Prevents tooth loss

Treating gum disease early helps preserve the structures that keep your teeth secure.

Fresher breath

Treating the underlying infection also helps improve the appearance of your smile and your breath.

Supports general health

Gum disease is linked to heart disease, diabetes, and other systemic conditions. Treating it protects more than your smile.

Patient education

We put great emphasis on educating patients, giving you the right tools and knowledge to maintain your gum health.

Gentle & pain-free

Our professional treatment is designed to keep you comfortable while delivering stable, long-term results.

Ongoing maintenance

Regular hygiene visits help you maintain healthy gums for life, not just a one-off fix.

Why treating gum disease matters beyond your smile

By maintaining good oral hygiene habits and seeking regular dental care, you can prevent gum disease and keep your gums healthy for a lifetime. Left untreated, gum disease doesn't just risk your teeth, it's linked to wider health conditions, so early treatment protects both your smile and your general health.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Dental Hygiene & Periodontal Treatment FAQs

Why should I see a dental hygienist?

Regular hygiene appointments help remove plaque and tartar that can't be removed by brushing alone. They reduce your risk of gum disease, help prevent tooth decay, improve breath and keep your smile looking and feeling its best.

Can I book a hygienist without seeing a dentist?

Yes. We offer Direct access hygiene appointments, meaning you can book with one of our hygienists even if you're not registered with the practice.

How do I know if I have gum disease?

Signs of gum disease can include bleeding when brushing or flossing, swollen or tender gums, persistent bad breath, gum recession, loose teeth or teeth that appear longer than before. In its early stages, gum disease can be painless, which is why regular hygiene appointments and dental examinations are so important.

How often should I have a hygiene appointment?

Most people benefit from seeing a hygienist every 3–6 months, although this depends on your oral health and risk of gum disease. We'll recommend a schedule that's right for you.

How much does dental hygiene cost?

Hygiene appointments for registered patients are £79. Direct access hygiene appointment (non-registered patients) are £89

How much does periodontal (gum disease) treatment cost?

Your comprehensive periodontal assessment is £159. Following this assessment, periodontal treatment is charged at £120 per 30-minute appointment. The number of appointments required depends on the severity of your gum disease and your personalised treatment plan.
